A teacher was emotional in court as she received her sentencing for inviting a teenager to her home for sexual relations while her husband was away. The court revealed that McKenna Kindred engaged in flirtatious behavior with her 17-year-old student via social media, leading to explicit text exchanges in 2022.
Evidence presented in court included messages showing that the 27-year-old teacher had sent sexually suggestive texts to the student before engaging in a sexual encounter with him at her residence in Spokane, Washington, in November 2022. The encounter reportedly lasted for three-and-a-half hours, followed by a shower and casual time together.
Their inappropriate relationship began in June of the same year after the student started following Kindred on Instagram, initiating explicit messaging. The relationship was exposed when a friend of the student accessed his Instagram account and discovered messages indicating a close relationship between the teacher and the student.
According to reports, the student disclosed that he visited Kindred’s home in the evening, where they initially kissed while watching a movie before engaging in sexual activity on the couch and then moving to the bedroom. The student’s mother mentioned that Kindred shared intimate photos, including images of her breasts, with the teenager, who reciprocated with explicit videos.
Further communication between the teacher and the student involved suggestive messages and discussions about their encounters. Kindred admitted to engaging in sexual misconduct with a minor and inappropriate communication with a minor as part of a plea deal reached in March 2024 following her arrest.
Despite her confession, Kindred avoided imprisonment and was sentenced to two years of probation, fined $700 (£500), and required to register as a sex offender for a decade. Expressing remorse in court, she acknowledged the impact of her actions on her career, relationships, and mental well-being.
Despite the challenges, Kindred’s husband stood by her throughout the legal proceedings. The couple relocated after her arrest, residing in Idaho where they purchased a new home. It remains uncertain if Kindred has resumed her teaching career after surrendering her license in response to an investigation by the Idaho Standards Commission.
