A mother’s life was dramatically altered in just three harrowing seconds when a car smashed into her home while she was watching TV with her children. Paige Amber, 32, was spending time with her partner Joe, 40, and their kids, including a 10-month-old baby, when a Ford Fiesta lost control and crashed into their residence in Capthorne, West Sussex, on January 2, damaging the gas main and electricity supply.

The incident left the family feeling their security was shattered instantly. Forced to evacuate immediately, they had to leave behind all their belongings due to concerns about the building’s stability. Since then, they have been residing in a single, windowless room at a Travelodge.

Paige recounted the frightening experience, stating that the car crashed into their home with a deafening bang, resembling an explosion. The chaos led to panic as her partner rushed outside, her infant woke up crying, and her daughter and a friend were in distress, all while witnessing the destruction in their house.

The trauma of seeing her 10-year-old daughter’s terrified expression during the incident remains vivid in Paige’s memory. She expressed her devastation at the loss of their once secure home in mere seconds.

Although no physical injuries were sustained, the family continues to be displaced. Paige described their current living conditions as a nightmare, cramped in a small room with no windows, a stark contrast to the home they had meticulously set up.

Repairing the house is estimated to cost £30,000 and may take up to four months to complete. To add to their challenges, Paige’s youngest child was hospitalized with a chest infection recently, furthering their distress.

In response to their situation, Paige has initiated a GoFundMe campaign to assist with essential needs such as clothing, food, and temporary shelter. She expressed the immense hardship of the past weeks, feeling overwhelmed and aged by the stress, constantly strategizing their next steps and grappling with emotional fluctuations.

The Sussex Police were contacted for input on the incident. Donations to support the family can be made to the GoFundMe campaign.
