During a flight from California to Manila, a flight attendant was forced to deal with a challenging situation when a malfunction caused human waste to accumulate in the lavatory. The crew member had to manually remove the waste using a drinks carton, as shown in a video circulating on YouTube.

The airline, facing the dilemma of diverting the flight to address the issue or manually clearing the waste onboard, opted for the latter to avoid a six-hour detour to Guam. Fortunately, the impromptu solution worked, and the Boeing 777 was able to land in Manila without further incidents.

While the inconvenience was acknowledged by the airline, they praised the crew for their professionalism in managing the situation. However, flight attendants expressed their displeasure with the airline’s handling of the incident, claiming that worker safety and dignity were compromised.

An internal investigation is ongoing to address the matter, with an airline spokesperson refraining from commenting on specific claims at this stage. Despite the challenging circumstances, some experts pointed out the practicality of the crew’s actions in avoiding a significant diversion and potential disruptions.

The incident serves as a reminder of the unexpected challenges that can arise during flights, highlighting the importance of preparedness and quick thinking in resolving such issues.
