Households that have access to Netflix might face a fine of up to £1,000 for not complying with a straightforward UK regulation. The regulations concerning TV streaming are quite explicit. While indulging in a TV series marathon or movie sessions on online platforms like Netflix, there is no requirement for a TV License. Nevertheless, the situation shifts once you switch to live broadcasts, a scenario that many may encounter this weekend.

Boxing icon Tyson Fury is set to return to the ring on Saturday, April 11, for a match against Arslanbek Makhmudov, which will be streamed live through the Netflix platform.

For subscribers, there are no additional charges to witness the event at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

However, there is a caution when tuning in.

The team at TV Licensing clarified, “If you are watching a live TV program on Netflix, you must have a TV License, but it is not required for on-demand content.”

Tyson Fury is coming out of retirement to confront Russian boxer Arslanbek Makhmudov in a heavyweight bout in London on April 11. The fight will be live-streamed on Netflix, accessible for free with Sky’s £15 Essential TV package or £24 Ultimate TV bundle, which also includes HBO Max and Disney+.

Disregarding this warning could lead to substantial financial penalties for those caught violating the regulations.

The consequences of unauthorized viewing, recording, or downloading of programs may include prosecution with a maximum penalty of a £1,000 fine, in addition to legal expenses and potential compensation.

Therefore, before enjoying the Netflix broadcast of the major fight, it is advisable to ensure compliance with all necessary obligations and fees.

Just as a reminder, a standard TV License is priced at £180, while a black and white license costs £60.50.
