Despite finishing nearly 40 seconds ahead of the seventh-placed skater from China, Shoaong Liu, who was involved in the collision, Treacy missed the podium opportunity. Another Chinese skater, Long Sun, had to withdraw due to injury. The gold medal was secured by Jens van ‘T Wout from the Netherlands, continuing their strong performance in the sport, with Korea’s Hwang Daehoen and Latvia’s Roberts Kruzbergs completing the podium.
Former Team GB skater Wilf O’Reilly expressed disappointment at Treacy’s misfortune, emphasizing the importance of avoiding trouble in such races. Treacy himself maintained composure, attributing the incident to his focus on staying with the leading pack, which led to him not seeing the skaters behind him.
