Scammers are devising a new scheme to target WhatsApp users, aiming to hijack sensitive data. With the prevalence of online threats, it is crucial to be cautious and avoid interacting with suspicious links or unknown software.

The emergence of the “ghost pairing scam” on WhatsApp highlights the evolving tactics of scammers. Social media user Caroline shared a video on TikTok to warn about this deceptive ploy, emphasizing the risk of granting hackers remote access to personal information.

In this scam, users receive a seemingly authentic message purportedly from WhatsApp, urging them to secure their accounts. By unknowingly forwarding a code as instructed, users inadvertently link their accounts to the scammer’s device, allowing unauthorized access.

Once scammers gain access, they can view messages, photos, and even impersonate users to perpetuate the scam without the victim’s awareness. Detecting this scam is challenging as it does not disrupt normal app functionality, making it imperative for users to stay vigilant.

To safeguard against such scams, never share WhatsApp codes with anyone. WhatsApp will never request codes via text messages. Users should also regularly check linked devices in settings to identify any unauthorized access and immediately disconnect unfamiliar devices.

Caroline’s video resonated with viewers, prompting them to share the information, particularly with older relatives who may be more susceptible. Comments expressed gratitude for the alert, with some recounting their encounters with similar scams and taking immediate preventive actions.
