Carlos Alcaraz made history by defeating Novak Djokovic in the Australian Open final to become the youngest tennis player in the Open era to achieve a career Grand Slam, surpassing Rafael Nadal’s record. Despite losing the first set 6-2, Alcaraz rallied to win the next three sets 6-2, 6-3, 7-5, claiming victory at Rod Laver Arena.

At 22 years old, Alcaraz has previously won each of the other three Grand Slam tournaments twice but had faced setbacks in Australia. However, this year, he advanced to the final after consecutive quarter-final exits, including a defeat by Djokovic last year.

In a revengeful performance lasting over three hours, Alcaraz dethroned the 11-time champion Djokovic to secure his place in tennis history. He achieved this feat at the age of 22 years and 272 days, breaking the record previously held by Nadal in the Open era.

Nadal, present at the final, witnessed Alcaraz’s triumph as he clinched his seventh Grand Slam singles title, surpassing Bjorn Borg’s record. Alcaraz’s latest victory also positioned him three titles ahead of Jannik Sinner, whom Djokovic defeated in the semi-finals.

Djokovic, aiming to become the overall leader in Grand Slam singles titles with 25, fell short after facing physical challenges in the second and third sets. Despite a strong response in the fourth set, he couldn’t force a decider in his 38th Grand Slam final.

Acknowledging Alcaraz’s achievement, Djokovic praised his opponent’s historic performance and wished him success in his future career. Djokovic also paid tribute to Nadal, expressing gratitude for their on-court battles and acknowledging the presence of the Spanish legend at the event.

With this remarkable victory, Alcaraz not only etched his name in tennis history but also set a new benchmark for future players to strive towards.
