Rebecca Adlington, the renowned Team GB star, recently shared insights into her financial situation post-pandemic, revealing a decline in her earnings. Following her retirement from competitive swimming in 2013, Adlington diversified into sports commentary, reality TV appearances, and co-founding ‘Swim!’ with fellow Olympian Steve Parry, a national children’s swimming program.
Despite previously enjoying substantial income from her various ventures, Adlington disclosed to The Times that her earnings have significantly decreased in recent years. She mentioned that while her income is now more stable due to her role as co-owner and director of a swimming business, her revenue from speaking engagements, brand collaborations, and TV projects has notably reduced post-Covid.
Reflecting on her career since the London 2012 Olympics, Adlington credited the games for inspiring her to delve into the swimming business alongside Parry, focusing on grassroots initiatives rather than coaching. Although her income has taken a hit, Adlington and her family currently reside in a five-bedroom house in Cheshire, which she affectionately calls her “dream home,” despite not having a swimming pool due to financial constraints.
Adlington’s financial journey began at 20 with a £150,000 new-build property in Nottingham, a decision she made after realizing the drawbacks of renting. When asked about financial stability, she expressed gratitude for her family’s support and the opportunities that arose after her success at the Beijing Olympics, which enabled her to provide for her loved ones.
One of Adlington’s notable earnings was from her stint on ‘I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!,’ where she earned around £70,000. Although she admitted to splurging on getaways, her preference is to save rather than spend extravagantly. Her most significant purchase to date has been her custom-made engagement and wedding rings, totaling £6,000, which she shared the cost of with her husband.
