EE has unveiled an enhanced version of its Scam Guard service to combat the rising trend of scams, which continue to deceive individuals. Recent data reveals significant financial losses incurred daily in the UK due to cybercriminals employing various strategies to extract sensitive information. The upgraded Scam Guard aims to thwart more attacks directed at mobile phones.

Available for a monthly fee of £2 to all EE pay-monthly mobile subscribers, this update offers improved protection against potential threats. Despite the additional cost, EE assures customers of substantially enhanced security measures.

Since its initial launch in 2024, Scam Guard has successfully intercepted 169 million scam and spam attempts. With the latest upgrade, EE anticipates doubling this figure in the next year.

The new Scam Guard features AI Triple-Lock Protection, a set of three digital safety components powered by Norton’s Genie AI engine. These components include Safe Email, which delivers proactive scam shielding for email accounts round the clock. Additionally, Safe SMS utilizes advanced AI to identify sophisticated scams in text messages, ensuring real-time protection for users. Safe Web is integrated to safeguard customers from online scams while shopping or browsing, preemptively blocking harmful websites.

Moreover, the upgraded Scam Guard introduces Scam Assistant, enabling users to upload screenshots of suspicious texts, emails, websites, or QR codes for instant feedback on their safety. Social Media Monitoring and Dark Web Monitoring monitor a customer’s online presence for any suspicious activities, sending prompt alerts for necessary action.

Malcolm Cubitt, Director of Product, Mobile, EE, emphasized the importance of heightened cybersecurity measures in response to increasing fraud incidents in the UK. As scams become more sophisticated, EE remains committed to enhancing customer protection through innovative solutions like the advanced Scam Guard service.
