Declan Queally and Nico de Boinville have resolved their disagreement following Queally’s claim that De Boinville made a racially abusive comment towards him during the Cheltenham Festival. The incident occurred during the Turners Novices’ Hurdle, the opening race of the second day at Cheltenham, where tensions rose as the jockeys jostled for position among the large field of 21 horses.
The altercation continued after the race, with Queally expressing his dismay at De Boinville’s behavior, labeling it as unacceptable. Queally reported the incident to the BHA stewards, alleging that the comment made by De Boinville had racial undertones. De Boinville declined to comment when approached for a response.
However, the situation has now been amicably resolved. In a recent interview with ITV after the Close Brothers Mares’ Hurdle, Queally and De Boinville shook hands, signaling the end of their dispute. Queally acknowledged that it was a momentary conflict and extended his best wishes to De Boinville. De Boinville reciprocated the sentiment, thanking Davy Russell for helping to resolve the issue.
The two jockeys concluded their reconciliation with a handshake before preparing for the upcoming race, The Close Brothers Mares’ Hurdle. Former Champion Jockey AP McCoy commended their actions, describing it as the appropriate way to handle the situation.
