Shoppers were left heartbroken upon learning that a family-operated art and stationery store will be permanently shutting down. Clarkes of Sussex made the announcement via social media, stating that the time has come to close its Burgess Hill branch in West Sussex after over 40 years of operation. Although the exact closing date in April has not been disclosed, devoted customers have been expressing their sadness.

Numerous customers shared their sentiments, with one expressing, “You will be greatly missed. It’s always a delight to visit your store.” Another lamented, “This news is truly saddening.” A third customer conveyed, “I have been a patron of your store for many years, and you have always been helpful, respectful, and kind.” Another individual commented, “I am truly saddened to hear this news – your store is fantastic, and the staff are wonderful.”

Last year, Clarkes of Sussex closed its Brighton store after 25 years of service, but it continues to operate other stores in Sussex, including one in Haywards Heath. Additionally, Clarkes in Lewes, under different ownership, is set to close in March.

Jay Patel, the proprietor of Clarkes of Sussex, shared a heartfelt message on social media explaining the closure of the Burgess Hill store. Patel expressed mixed emotions, acknowledging the community’s kindness, loyalty, and the connections forged over the years. Despite the closure, Patel expressed gratitude to customers for their unwavering support and the meaningful relationships built throughout the store’s history.

As the chapter comes to a close, Patel emphasized that the memories, friendships, and bonds created will endure. He conveyed his deep appreciation for the community’s role in his journey and wished everyone happiness, good health, and success in the future.
