A well-known hotel and dining establishment has abruptly ceased operations after 46 years, leaving patrons in shock.

Guys Thatched Hamlet, situated near Bilsborrow in Lancashire along the A6, has officially closed its doors. The 65-room hotel, positioned by the canal on St Michael’s Road, has let go of all its employees.

A closure notice has been affixed to the hotel’s entrance, confirming the shutdown. Spanning nearly 14 acres, the site encompassed a pub, eatery, sports pavilion, event spaces, a cricket field, bowling green, and three parking areas.

As per the Lancashire Post, a statement on the note read, “After 46 years of operation, we announce the closure of Guy’s Thatched Hamlet. This was a challenging decision made after careful consideration. We extend our heartfelt appreciation to our patrons, staff, and suppliers for their unwavering loyalty and support over the years.”

Heartbroken customers have taken to social media to express their sentiments. One individual reminisced about a proposal at the venue in 2012, while another shared a similar engagement experience in 2015, expressing disappointment at the closure.

The Wilkinson family has managed the business since 1980 and had listed it for sale last year, citing a net turnover of around £4.2 million without a specified guide price.

The property, known for its 65 en suite guest rooms, attracted a mix of leisure and commercial clientele due to its strategic location near the Lake District, Fylde Coast, and the Trough of Bowland. Over the years, the establishment underwent extensive refurbishments and expansions, becoming a well-regarded destination in the North West of England with a strong year-round business base.
