Surrey County Council is offering free supermarket vouchers worth £300 to numerous households as part of their assistance with the cost of living. This initiative falls under the Household Support Fund, a fund designated for local authorities to aid vulnerable families.

Residents of Surrey County Council who are facing challenges in affording food and essentials can apply for these vouchers through the Everyday Essentials E-Voucher scheme. The vouchers are redeemable at various supermarkets such as Aldi, Asda, Farmfoods, Iceland, Morrisons, Sainsbury’s, Tesco, and Waitrose.

To be eligible for this scheme, individuals must be over 18 years old, reside in Surrey, maintain household savings of £2,000 or less over a 90-day period, and possess an annual household income below £27,007.50 before deductions.

Applicants are required to provide details regarding their income and any household benefits received. Applications for the vouchers open monthly, with the upcoming round accessible starting today, February 3. Those who miss the current application window can reapply from March 2.

Residents outside of Surrey who are struggling financially are advised to contact their respective local councils for available support. Nottingham City Council, for example, is distributing £100 vouchers to individuals with low incomes or on benefits. The vouchers are being sent out gradually and may take until February 28, 2026, to reach recipients.

The vouchers will be distributed randomly to 10,000 qualifying households, regardless of the order of application. Even if a household received a voucher from the council in April 2025, they are still eligible to apply.

Additionally, Wakefield Council is providing food vouchers to low-income households receiving council tax assistance, while pensioners who receive Council Tax Support have already received a £70 voucher in November. Families receiving Council Tax Support will also receive vouchers ranging from £50 to £70 in December.

Furthermore, Blackpool Council is granting energy assistance of £200 to eligible households of one or two individuals and £300 to qualifying households of three or more individuals, including children. To qualify for this aid, individuals must demonstrate financial hardship and provide recent bank statements for all household members.
