Iran’s potential new hardline multi-billionaire Supreme Leader is facing significant threats from Israel, signaling Tehran’s aggressive stance. Motjaba Khamenei, a war veteran, is expected to resist pressure from Israel and the US, aiming to escalate regional violence.

Having evaded military strikes for five days by utilizing Tehran’s extensive tunnel network, believed to be hundreds of meters deep, his swift appointment came after just two virtual meetings by Tehran’s Assembly of experts. Despite being immensely wealthy through his property ventures, Motjaba, the second son of the late Ayatollah, is favored by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.

Despite his opulent lifestyle, Motjaba’s hardline views align with his late father’s anti-western sentiments. Although heavily sanctioned by the US, he holds vast wealth in multiple Swiss bank accounts. With close ties to Iran’s elite military force, IRGC, he is seen as a potential successor to his father, deeply entrenched in the country’s political and security domains.

Having served in Iran’s armed forces during the Iran-Iraq war, he has gained experience and loyalty within the IRGC. Chosen by the Assembly of Experts under IRGC pressure, he wields significant influence within Iran’s political and security circles.

Despite his global outlook, Motjaba remains a target for Israel, with Israeli sources indicating his selection poses a threat to Israel’s security. Allegedly targeted by US-Israeli strikes, his leadership is met with apprehension from international quarters, including the US and Israel.

As the son of a leading Tehran figure, Motjaba’s late wife was well-connected in Iranian society. His leadership is perceived as a continuation of the Iranian regime’s threatening stance towards Israel and the broader international community.
