EDF is introducing a promotion where customers can receive complimentary electricity on Sundays by reducing their energy usage during peak hours on weekdays. The initiative, known as the Sunday Saver challenge, will run throughout February. Customers are required to shift their electricity consumption away from peak hours, typically between 4pm to 7pm on weekdays, to qualify for the free electricity benefit on Sundays.

Participants can earn between four to 16 hours of free electricity the following Sunday by adhering to the challenge. EDF customers who have a smart meter can enroll in the program until February 1st. The energy company has already rewarded over 260,000 households with more than 17 million hours of free electricity under the Sunday Saver challenge, resulting in £5.2 million in bill credits.

The Sunday Saver challenge has been well-received by over 100,000 customers who enjoyed eight hours of complimentary electricity over the Christmas period. Natasha Shields from Barnsley, South Yorkshire, shared her positive experience, noting that the initiative has helped her family cope with rising living costs by encouraging energy-saving practices.

Jon Perks, EDF’s Sales & Marketing Director, emphasized the program’s ability to assist households during the winter period when energy bills are typically higher. He highlighted that customers can monitor their energy usage through the Energy Hub platform, enabling them to identify opportunities for electricity conservation and reduce their carbon footprint.

Additionally, EDF is offering a £50 credit to new and existing customers who sign up for any of its electric vehicle (EV) tariffs within the next month. The EV tariffs, including GoElectric, Pod Point EV Exclusive, Evolve, and Pod Point Plug & Power, provide five hours of discounted electricity every night from 12am to 5am for both home and electric vehicle charging.

Customers can track their Sunday Saver challenge progress and energy usage through the Energy Hub on MyAccount, offering a personalized overview of their household’s energy consumption patterns. This initiative aligns with EDF’s commitment to supporting sustainable energy practices and reducing the financial burden on customers.
