Residents on Mountbatten Road have strong opinions about the recent arrest of former Prince Andrew, as evident from a stroll along the nearby parade. Retired university worker Julia Kania, 70, expressed no surprise at the arrest, stating that it was long overdue and that Andrew is no exception to facing consequences. She emphasized that he should have taken responsibility earlier to put the matter to rest.

Julia, residing in the neighboring village of Ingoldisthorpe, sympathized with Andrew’s daughters and speculated on the late Prince Philip’s hypothetical reaction. Another local, retired engineer David Turrell, shared his initial shock at the news of Andrew’s arrest but offered sympathy to the royal family, acknowledging the complexities involved.

Retired cinema projectionist Jeff Cole welcomed the investigation into Andrew but doubted any formal charges would be brought against him. Similarly, another resident, identified as Alan, aged 78, believed that Andrew was being unfairly singled out as a distraction from larger issues. He suggested that Andrew should address the situation in America and shed light on the circumstances behind the scenes.

A female pensioner, preferring to remain anonymous, stressed the importance of the law taking its course, echoing the sentiment that accountability should prevail. She also highlighted the challenges faced by the royal family in managing both personal and institutional responsibilities amidst public scrutiny.

The overall consensus among residents suggests a mix of skepticism, sympathy, and a call for transparency in handling the situation involving Prince Andrew.
