McDonald’s enthusiasts are expressing discontent following a social media post that disclosed the steep price of a hash brown, nearing £2 at select restaurants.
The viral post showcased an image of a McDonald’s menu board, highlighting the price of a hash brown at £1.99 in the specific outlet visited by the individual.
The post, garnering over 459,000 views, was captioned with: “£2 for a single hash brown. We’ve had enough.”
Various reactions surfaced, with one person stating: “It’s getting out of hand, I rarely visit but it used to be an affordable choice.” Another commented, “For that price, I’d opt for the sausage sandwich.” A third simply remarked, “Absurdity.”
Another user added, “Those hash browns are fantastic, but £2 is excessive.” While someone else reminisced, “I recall when they were priced at 59p.”
A representative from McDonald’s clarified: “A significant portion of our outlets are independently owned and operated, allowing them to set their own pricing. Consequently, individual item prices may fluctuate, yet all strive to offer customers a premium dining experience with great value.”
This follows McDonald’s announcement of an impending increase in the redemption points required for free items through MyMcDonald’s Rewards. Presently, items like a Big Mac, Double Fillet of Fish, Double Sausage and Egg McMuffin, and Nine Chicken Nuggets necessitate 5,500 points. However, starting March 17, customers will need 6,500 points to redeem these selections, earning 100 points for each £1 spent at McDonald’s.
The point thresholds for items such as a Medium Coffee or Small Fries will elevate from 1,500 to 2,000 points, while a regular McFlurry or an Apple Pie will rise from 2,500 to 3,500 points. Moreover, to acquire a Double Cheeseburger or a McChicken sandwich, 5,000 points will be needed, up from the previous 4,000 points.
A McDonald’s spokesperson shared with The Sun that the adjustments to the loyalty program align with escalating food and operational costs. They added: “While we have revised the points required across all tiers due to rising expenses, we have also introduced several fan favorites now available for redemption for the first time, including Chicken Selects, Cheese sides, and the new Sausage Sandwich, offering increased choices for our patrons.”
