A woman known as the “poshest thief” in the UK has been found guilty of stealing £12,000 worth of alcohol from Sainsbury’s. Despite a previous theft incident, the woman, identified as Pauline Al Said, avoided prison time once again. Al Said, a former lecturer at Bath Spa University, gained notoriety in 2024 for stealing over £1,000 worth of items, including cookware, wine, gin, and steaks. Along with her husband, she received a fine of £2,500 for this offense.
In her latest crime spree, Al Said stole a staggering £11,964 worth of products over nine months, which included expensive vodka, gin, prosecco, and wine. She concealed these items in her shopping trolleys under Disney dresses and dressing gowns. Despite her actions, Al Said managed to evade imprisonment and received a suspended sentence for her recent theft from Sainsbury’s.
The judge overseeing the case noted that Al Said had targeted Sainsbury’s in multiple theft incidents, primarily stealing alcohol and meat. As part of her sentence, she was ordered to repay £1,800 to the supermarket and was banned from entering the store for the duration of her suspended prison term. Judge Gary Lucie acknowledged Al Said’s remorse but emphasized the seriousness of her high-value shoplifting spree.
Al Said was given an 18-month suspended prison sentence and required to attend 28 rehabilitation days. Her lawyer highlighted her educational background and positive steps towards changing her life. Additionally, Al Said has rebranded herself as Pauline Tusien and now offers life and career mentoring services through a website, focusing on wellbeing and providing clarity to those in need.
