Keir Starmer criticized Donald Trump’s comments regarding British troops in Afghanistan, deeming them disrespectful and unacceptable. Starmer suggested that Trump should issue an apology for his remarks.

The British Prime Minister responded to Trump’s assertion that NATO allies, including British forces, did not play a significant role in frontline operations in Afghanistan. The UK lost 457 troops and many more suffered severe injuries during the conflict.

Starmer expressed his deep respect for the fallen soldiers and injured personnel, emphasizing their courage and sacrifice for the nation. He condemned Trump’s remarks as offensive and distressing to the families of those who served in Afghanistan.

Additionally, the Prime Minister’s spokesperson stated that Trump’s comments belittled the contributions of NATO troops, including the UK’s forces. The UK and US forces fought together in Afghanistan following the 9/11 attacks, with significant British casualties.

Various veterans and families affected by the conflict voiced their outrage at Trump’s statements and called for a response from the UK government. The Minister for the Armed Forces, Al Carns, labeled Trump’s comments as baseless and invited skeptics to meet with affected families to understand the reality of the situation.

Labour MP Clive Lewis, a former Afghanistan veteran, criticized Trump’s remarks as deliberate provocations and urged people not to give in to his divisive tactics. The controversy sparked demands for Trump to apologize and drew widespread condemnation from UK political figures and military personnel.
