Uswitch’s most recent study has revealed that a surge in streaming and online activities during the summer is leading to a bottleneck in broadband services for many individuals in the UK. The research indicates that approximately 9.4 million Brits are experiencing slower internet speeds due to the increased demand.
According to the survey by the company, 32% of respondents have noticed more frequent issues with their broadband connections as temperatures rise. The study also identified that residents in Edinburgh are the most affected, with 26% reporting decreased speeds, followed by London and Plymouth at 23%, and then Leeds and Sheffield.
On the contrary, Cardiff and Bristol seem to be enjoying a more reliable broadband service.
Ernest Doku, an expert on broadband at Uswitch, recommends taking proactive measures to address slow speeds. He advises users to conduct speed tests to ensure they are receiving the speeds promised in their subscription packages. Doku emphasizes that broadband providers should guarantee a minimum speed for their services, especially with superfast broadband products, which are now assessed based on the line’s capacity directly to the premises.
Optimizing broadband performance is crucial in the current digital landscape where online activities have become more prevalent, particularly during the summer months.
