Donald Trump has vehemently reacted to the recent release of files related to Epstein by threatening legal action against the deceased financier’s estate. He also accused a former acquaintance of conspiring to damage his political career.
The 79-year-old Trump spoke out for the first time about the newly disclosed documents while traveling on Air Force One to Florida. He alleged that emails in the release indicated collusion between his former associate Epstein and his now adversary Michael Wolff to harm him politically.
Trump asserted that the documents, part of what the Justice Department holds, “exonerate” him, despite admitting he had not personally reviewed them. He insisted that Wolff and Epstein had schemed to undermine him politically and stated his intention to potentially sue Wolff over the matter.
Email exchanges included in the files revealed discussions between Wolff and Epstein, with Wolff suggesting he could be instrumental in ending Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign. In another email, Wolff advised Epstein to allow Trump to incriminate himself during television interviews about their relationship.
Before Trump’s 2016 campaign and prior to Epstein’s criminal activities becoming public knowledge, the two had mingled at prominent gatherings in Florida and New York. Trump had previously praised Epstein in a 2002 interview, noting their shared appreciation for attractive women.
Following an alleged fallout in 2004, Trump distanced himself from Epstein, emphasizing that they had not communicated for fifteen years before Epstein’s death in 2019. While Trump is mentioned in some documents from the release, there is no indication of his involvement in any illegal activities.
During his flight on Air Force One, Trump claimed that reputable sources informed him the documents cleared him of any suspicions regarding his associations with Epstein. He suggested that the content of the files contradicted what certain factions had hoped for, particularly from the radical left.
