Skiing icon Lindsey Vonn suffered a dramatic crash during the women’s downhill alpine skiing final at the Winter Olympics on Sunday. Just nine days after a left ruptured anterior cruciate ligament injury, the 41-year-old skier faced another setback as she tumbled shortly into her run. Medical professionals swiftly attended to Vonn as she lay on the snow, visibly distressed and in pain. The crowd fell silent as she was carefully loaded onto a stretcher and airlifted, presumably to a nearby medical facility.

During the live broadcast on BBC Two, five-time Olympic skier Graham Bell expressed shock at the incident, emphasizing Vonn’s determination and the risks she took to compete. Former British downhill skier Chemmy Alcott, who raced alongside Vonn, was also emotional, describing the challenging course and the disappointment of seeing Vonn’s crash unfold.

Vonn had recently recovered from a previous ACL injury sustained in a World Cup event in Switzerland and had shown promise in practice sessions leading up to the competition. However, her hopes for a successful Olympic return were dashed as she crashed out of the downhill event.

The course was briefly paused following Vonn’s accident, and shortly after, another skier, Cande Moreno, also suffered a fall on the course and had to be airlifted for medical attention. In other news, Sky announced a discounted Essential TV and Sky Sports bundle for the upcoming season, offering a wide range of live matches across various leagues, including the Premier League.
