A passenger on a Ryanair flight was charged £75 for oversized luggage despite paying extra for onboard carriage. Gilly Bachelor faced this issue at Birmingham Airport en route to Malaga, Spain, where she was stopped at the boarding gate.

Despite having priority boarding and two cabin bags, Gilly was told she couldn’t bring her bag on board and was forced to pay the additional fee. The £75 charge, on top of the £125 flight cost, left her feeling stressed during the incident.

Gilly, from Brewood near Cannock, Staffs, recounted her experience, mentioning that her bag had never posed a problem on other flights except with Ryanair. She explained that the issue was with the wheels of her bag, which were slightly too wide for the sizer.

The passenger, who owns a travel agency, observed that multiple passengers were also fined for oversized bags. She speculated that Ryanair staff might receive incentives for flagging oversized luggage, which could contribute to the strict enforcement of rules.

Gilly advised travelers to carefully check size regulations and use compliant bags to avoid unnecessary fines and stress at the gate. She contrasted her experience with easyJet and Jet2, where her bag complied with regulations.

Ryanair has been approached for comment by The Mirror regarding the incident.
