Donald Trump is presenting himself as a peacemaker in Ukraine, but his actions and associations suggest a different agenda. His purported peace efforts appear more like a business scheme disguised as diplomacy, aimed at benefiting himself and his wealthy companions by rekindling profitable relationships with Moscow.

In a recent statement, Trump criticized Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, implying that Zelensky needs to comply with certain demands for the war to cease. This public reprimand sends a clear message of intimidation.

Furthermore, Trump’s remarks about Russia’s superiority and his criticism of European allies for being ineffective in their support for Ukraine serve to weaken Ukraine’s position in negotiations. It seems evident that Trump is orchestrating a diplomatic strategy centered around a 28-point plan that neither Ukraine nor Russia is likely to accept.

The individuals Trump has sent to negotiate, including billionaire Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, are not traditional peace envoys but rather individuals with financial interests and connections that may benefit from the outcomes of the talks. On the other side, Russia has dispatched Kirill Dmitriev, a financial expert, indicating a focus on economic opportunities rather than ending the conflict.

The meeting in Florida between these representatives was not a peace summit but rather a business gathering. By engaging financiers instead of diplomats, both Trump and Putin are signaling their true priorities, which seem to revolve around financial gains rather than achieving lasting peace in Ukraine.

Trump’s tactics of pressuring Zelensky and emphasizing Russia’s advantage do not appear geared towards ending the violence but rather towards setting the stage for a deal that could benefit Trump’s allies financially. This approach risks Ukraine being coerced into concessions that compromise its sovereignty and security.

True peace requires genuine partnership, not exploitation for personal gain. Trump’s proposal should be seen for what it truly is: a self-serving endeavor that prioritizes enriching a select few at the expense of Ukraine’s well-being. Ukraine deserves genuine allies, not opportunistic profiteers.
