A warning from a Russian nationalist politician has been issued to Europe amidst efforts to respond to recent threats from the US President. Aleksey Zhuravlev, aged 63, expressed concerns about leaders like Donald Trump, whom he described as believing he holds immense power, potentially leading the world to catastrophic outcomes. Zhuravlev suggested that if a conflict were to arise with the US, Europe could turn to Russia for protection.

The statements follow Trump’s comments reiterating the US’ interest in acquiring Greenland for national security purposes. European Union chief Ursula von der Leyen emphasized that Greenland belongs to its people and has engaged with Denmark on the matter.

Zhuravlev, posting on Telegram, emphasized the seriousness of Trump’s intentions, citing his actions towards Venezuela and territorial claims on Greenland. He highlighted the danger of leaders with unchecked egos and ambitions, cautioning about the potential risks they pose to global stability.

As the deputy chairman of the Russian parliament’s defence committee, Zhuravlev previously proposed supplying nuclear-capable Russian missiles to Venezuela and Cuba in response to US operations in Venezuela. Recently, he called for a strong response to the US capture of a Russian-flagged oil tanker, suggesting the use of torpedoes and emphasizing a readiness to utilize nuclear weapons if necessary.
