Shocking video footage captured the moment a parcel exploded at the reception of a building in Istanbul, a popular holiday destination. The incident involved a suspicious package that was delivered to the reception of a residential building in the city. The package was placed on the front desk in the lobby, where a man tried to open it before it detonated, causing chaos.
The explosion resulted in the man and two building staff members being hit by smoke and flames as the force of the blast scattered items from the front desk across the reception area. Debris, documents, and shattered glass covered the ground in the aftermath. The reception area sustained significant damage, leaving a visible mark where the package had been placed.
Emergency services quickly responded to the scene in Zeytinburnu on January 11, where the injured staff members were treated before being transported to a nearby hospital. Fortunately, they were later discharged after receiving medical attention. Following the incident, the police cordoned off the building, and forensic teams conducted an investigation to determine the cause of the explosion.
Despite the thorough investigation, the exact reason behind the explosion remains unknown. One of the injured staff members, Harun Arkin, shared his account of the event, mentioning the suspicious circumstances surrounding the delivery of the package. Another staff member, Berra Köse, also expressed concerns about the package and the courier involved in the delivery.
In a positive turn of events, the staff members were commended by the EVA Group, which oversees security at the building, for their actions that potentially averted a more severe disaster.
