A new option has emerged for households looking to access television content without monthly subscription fees. Freely, which was introduced in 2024, provides access to live channels through a broadband connection. Initially available on a limited selection of new TVs, Freely has expanded its reach in the last 18 months, with manufacturers like Hisense, Toshiba, and Sharp incorporating the service. Previously, individuals interested in utilizing Freely had to purchase a new television from a tech retailer.

However, Manhattan’s technology team has recently introduced a new solution – the Aero 4K set-top box powered by Freely. This device grants access to over 60 live channels and on-demand content, all free of charge and without requiring a costly subscription. The Aero 4K also offers features such as voice search, viewing recommendations, a comprehensive TV guide, and the ability to pause live programming. Additionally, users can access popular apps like Disney+ and Netflix through the box.

Priced at £69.99, the Aero 4K has gained popularity quickly. Currys is the first UK retailer to offer the Manhattan Aero 4K, and the device is currently out of stock due to high demand. However, Currys has assured that it will be restocked soon. Interested buyers can sign up on the Currys website to receive alerts when the product becomes available again. It is anticipated that other retailers, including Amazon and John Lewis, will also start selling the Aero 4K.

Once back in stock, the Aero 4K will compete with devices like Virgin’s Stream box and Sky Stream, eliminating the need for traditional aerial or dish setups by delivering content over the internet. The transition to streaming offers benefits such as simplified installation processes without requiring technician visits and regular software updates.

The television landscape is evolving rapidly, as Freely reports a user base exceeding one million. This trend is expected to continue as more individuals shift from traditional viewing methods to streaming services.
