A tragic incident occurred at a water park as a lifeguard lost his life while performing his duties, as confirmed by authorities. Guilherme da Guerra Domingos, aged 24, tragically drowned after attempting to retrieve a tourist’s ring in a pool at Wet’n Wild water park in Itupeva, Brazil. The police report revealed that he was pulled into the pool’s drainage system, leading to the fatal accident.
The incident unfolded at an attraction named Water Bomb, where Guilherme’s colleagues raised an alarm upon his prolonged absence from the surface. Swift action was taken by other lifeguards who retrieved him from the water and initiated emergency first aid procedures while awaiting medical assistance from the local health department.
Despite efforts to save him, Guilherme was pronounced dead shortly after being rushed to Nossa Senhora Aparecida Municipal Hospital. Wet’n Wild disclosed that Guilherme had been a dedicated employee for over two years, having been promoted to a leadership position in the park just last year.
The park management clarified that the Water Bomb attraction does not feature a bottom drain and highlighted the safety measures in place, including the hydraulic system utilizing side drains strategically placed away from the water slide exit and visitor areas.
City officials affirmed that the park is fully compliant with all regulatory requirements, with every attraction possessing the necessary permits and certifications, such as the Fire Department Inspection Certificate (AVCB), ensuring the park’s operational safety.
In response to the tragic incident, Wet’n Wild announced the temporary closure of the park and expressed their support for Guilherme’s family, pledging full cooperation with the ongoing investigations.
Following necessary procedures, Guilherme’s body was transferred to the Forensic Medical Institute in Jundiaí before being laid to rest in Bragança Paulista.
