North Korean leader Kim Jong-un was captured smiling as he observed a women’s spa pool in new and unusual photographs. The Supreme Leader attended the grand opening of the Onpo Workers’ Recreation Centre in North Hamgyong Province, which has been dubbed the ‘North Korean Benidorm.’ Despite the warm spa environment, Kim chose to keep his large winter coat on throughout the event but seemed delighted with the facilities.
The hot spring spa underwent a complete transformation following severe criticism from Kim Jong-un in 2018 for its poor management and outdated facilities. During the opening ceremony, Kim expressed satisfaction with the redesigned holiday camp, praising its practical layout and harmonious design that integrates well with the natural surroundings.
After a previous inspection where Kim Jong-un condemned the spa as “worse than a fish tank” and “shabby,” he demanded immediate action to revamp the site. Following his recent visit, Kim instructed resort officials to expedite the opening process, aiming for a full launch next month.
The spa is now offering packages to North Korea’s elite and tourists from China and Russia, priced between $1,000 to $1,350 for a week-long stay, excluding airfare. The released photos by North Korea’s official Korean Central News Agency captured Kim Jong-un’s interactions at the spa, showcasing his engagement during the tour of the revamped facilities.
