Desperate Iranian authorities have reportedly shifted substantial amounts of money in preparation for the possible collapse of the regime, despite the recent suppression of popular uprisings. The funds have been redirected to banks in Dubai and other locations due to concerns over the potential collapse of the banking system and the imminent downfall of Tehran’s oppressive government.
One prominent individual involved in this financial maneuver is Mojtaba Khamenei, the son of Ayatollah, who has transferred around £250 million to a bank in Dubai as a precautionary measure. These revelations come from a recent report by the US-based Critical Threats Organisation, which notes that while the protests have been quelled for now, the extensive deployment of security forces to control dissent is unsustainable.
The report highlights that despite the brutal crackdown on protesters, including a significant number of casualties and arrests, the regime’s approach of militarizing the streets and suppressing demonstrations may not be sustainable in the long run. Speculations arise about the possible resurgence of protests as security forces become fatigued.
Moreover, there are indications that Iranian leaders are moving their US currency reserves abroad, signifying their lack of confidence in the domestic banking system and hinting at apprehensions regarding the regime’s future stability. The report also mentions that the regime is attempting to portray the protests as acts of “terrorism” while positioning themselves as victims, drawing parallels to terrorist organizations like ISIS.
The postponement of a potential US attack on Iran has been attributed to concerns that Israel may not be adequately prepared to counter the anticipated response from Iran, including possible involvement from Lebanese Hezbollah. The Critical Threat report suggests that Hezbollah might be cautious in taking direct action against Israel or the US to support Iran due to the risks of triggering a broader conflict.
The ongoing protests, which have persisted for over two weeks, have engulfed various regions of the country, leading to violent confrontations and widespread chaos. The regime has intensified its crackdown efforts by deploying additional law enforcement personnel and stretching security resources to their limits.
