A map displaying numerous aircraft movements above Iran this morning is a striking sight, as the country has closed its airspace. Iran has implemented restrictions on flying through its airspace without special permission due to ongoing tensions in the nation. Recent reports indicate thousands of protesters have been killed, with the Iranian government hinting at imminent executions for those detained.

This closure has resulted in limited travel to and from Iran, leaving commercial pilots in a state of uncertainty. Flightradar 24 images reveal a significant aerial gap across the nation, forcing planes to divert through a narrow corridor over neighboring countries such as Iraq, Kuwait, and Bahrain.

US President Donald Trump mentioned last night that he received information suggesting a halt in planned executions in Iran. Despite this claim, Tehran continues to signal the possibility of swift trials and executions in response to the protests. The President has assured Iranian protesters that assistance is forthcoming, without specifying the nature of the support or the potential actions the US might take.

Iran’s judiciary chief, Gholamhossein Mohseni-Ejei, emphasized the need for expeditious punishment of over 18,000 detainees through rapid trials and executions. The security forces’ crackdown on demonstrations has resulted in a death toll of at least 2,586, as reported by the US-based Human Rights Activists News Agency, marking one of the deadliest waves of unrest in Iran in decades.

Amid escalating tensions, the UK and US have initiated evacuations of essential personnel from key Middle East bases in anticipation of potential strikes in a prospective conflict with Iran. Air raid sirens were tested at the main al-Udeid base in Qatar, utilized by British and American forces, with personnel relocated to secure sites in preparation for potential retaliatory actions.

On Wednesday night, the UK withdrew its diplomats from Iran following a security assessment. The British Embassy in Tehran has been temporarily closed, operating remotely, as per a Government spokesperson’s announcement. Updated Foreign Office travel advice reflects these changes in consular services.
