Statistics Canada has reported that a large number of drivers crossed the Gordie Howe International Bridge into Canada in the initial days following its opening. The highly anticipated bridge, linking Windsor and Detroit, commenced traffic operations on July 27 after experiencing several weeks of delays.

According to preliminary data from StatCan, there were 18,900 return trips by Canadian residents from the United States through the Gordie Howe bridge during its first five days of service. Additionally, 18,100 U.S. residents made their way into Canada via the same route during this period.

In comparison, other border crossings in the vicinity, such as the Ambassador Bridge and the Windsor-Detroit Tunnel, recorded a total of 52,700 inbound trips by both Canadian and U.S. residents over the same timeframe.

Furthermore, StatCan noted that 4,100 commercial transport trucks entered Canada through the Gordie Howe bridge in the final five days of July.
