Skywatchers in the Americas, Europe, and Africa were treated to a striking partial lunar eclipse from Thursday evening into Friday. Dubbed the “almost blood moon,” the eclipse reached its peak just after midnight ET, with 96 percent of the moon’s visible surface engulfed in Earth’s shadow, resulting in a near-total lunar eclipse. This celestial event was a rare sight, as the next lunar eclipse is not expected until New Year’s Eve in 2028.
