Catherine Ommanney, a former romantic interest of Prince Harry, has responded to accusations of leaving a hotel in Majorica without paying the bill, attributing the incident to a “technical error.”
Ommanney, aged 53, was taken into custody for suspected fraud following allegations from the management of the three-star Playas del Rey Hotel that she had not settled a bill amounting to nearly £450. During her nine-day stay, she accumulated charges of €500 (£434) and reportedly provided a credit card with insufficient funds.
Nevertheless, Ommanney has refuted claims of non-payment, labeling them as false. She stated, “The bill was paid. I have evidence that it was settled in full. This was a mistake on the hotel’s part, and I plan to seek an apology through legal channels.”
In an interview with the local publication Majorca Daily Bulletin, Ommanney described the incident as a “nightmare of a day,” attributing it to a clerical error. She clarified that the bill was paid via a bank transfer, as the hotel did not accept credit cards, and expressed her distress over being detained.
Ommanney was photographed alongside a Civil Guard officer on her way to a closed-door hearing in Palma, which took place yesterday evening. She reportedly appeared in court under a previous surname due to a prior marriage.
Following her arrest, Ommanney was released on bail pending further investigation. It remains unclear whether she provided a statement in court to explain the situation. Her lawyer indicated that she had not reviewed media reports regarding the arrest and would refrain from commenting without her client’s consent.
When contacted for a response, a receptionist at the Playas del Rey Hotel mentioned that there was no one available to speak to the press. Ommanney did not issue a statement immediately after her release, and the location of her arrest has not been disclosed.
Ommanney, an interior designer and former cast member of the Real Housewives of DC, claimed in a 2022 interview with the Sun that she had a brief relationship with the Duke of Sussex in 2006. She highlighted their age difference and suggested that Harry sought a deeper connection with someone more experienced.
Reflecting on their alleged interaction, Ommanney stated, “I believe he enjoyed my company due to my maturity and wisdom, unlike the younger individuals around him. He seemed to be searching for a meaningful bond with someone older, which is why he may have found me appealing. The age gap was insignificant to me at the time.”
