FIFA’s Chief Operating Officer, Kevin Lamour, has officially departed from the organization following his public criticism of President Gianni Infantino’s proposal to sell a share in FIFA’s tournament business, which includes the prestigious World Cup. The separation was confirmed by a FIFA spokesperson who expressed gratitude for Lamour’s two years of service without providing further details.
The decision to part ways with Lamour was communicated by FIFA Secretary General Mattias Grafstrom in a letter to staff and Council members, indicating that both parties mutually agreed to the separation after recent discussions, as reported by Sky News.
Lamour had openly opposed the proposal, accusing FIFA staff of being misled and denouncing it as a unilateral initiative by one individual. He emphasized that FIFA’s core mission is to serve football and not the personal agenda of any single person claiming to represent the organization.
Carlos Cordeiro, a senior adviser to President Infantino, had also resigned in protest against the sell-off plan, labeling it as detrimental to the sport. Lamour had joined FIFA in November 2024, previously being associated with Infantino’s close circle during the campaign for his presidency in 2016.
