Robert Rhodes, 52, carried out the brutal act by cutting his wife Dawn’s throat in their family home after discovering her affair. This heinous scheme involved deceiving the child, who was less than 10 years old, into assisting in the deadly attack.
Rhodes, a carpenter, then proceeded to fabricate a false narrative of self-defense, manipulating both the events and the child’s understanding of the situation. Despite being initially acquitted in 2017, his crime was eventually exposed in 2021 when the traumatized child bravely disclosed the truth to authorities.
During the sentencing at Inner London Crown Court, the child revealed the lasting impact of the ordeal, expressing ongoing mental health struggles and the physical scar on their arm inflicted by their own father. The court was informed of the child’s anguish, recounting the harrowing experience of testifying against Rhodes and condemning his manipulative actions.
Rhodes, facing life imprisonment with a minimum term of nearly 30 years, also faced additional charges of perjury, perverting the course of justice, and child cruelty.
