Kemi Badenoch expressed gratitude towards Nigel Farage for assisting in what she referred to as her “spring cleaning,” following the decision of Robert Jenrick to defect to Reform UK from the Conservative Party. Badenoch’s acknowledgment came after she was informed of Jenrick’s intentions and subsequently removed him from the Shadow Cabinet amidst a day of intense political activities. Subsequently, Nigel Farage welcomed Jenrick as the 24th former Tory MP to join his party, despite previously criticizing Jenrick as lacking in authenticity and principles.

In a series of interviews, Badenoch criticized Jenrick, labeling him as someone who frequently lies and cannot be trusted. When questioned about Jenrick being labeled a “traitor,” Badenoch responded by stating that he was no longer her concern but now Farage’s responsibility.

Expressing satisfaction with the situation, Badenoch remarked that Nigel Farage was facilitating her “spring cleaning” by having individuals disenchanted with the Conservative Party move to Reform. When challenged about downplaying the impact of the defection, Badenoch emphasized that the public was not interested in the internal turmoil within the Tory party. She further stated that those individuals who viewed politics as a mere game and engaged in drama were not welcome in the Conservative Party.

Meanwhile, Labour minister Pat McFadden commented on the turmoil within the right-wing political spectrum, highlighting the ongoing chaos and drama reminiscent of the Conservative Party’s previous years in power. McFadden emphasized Labour’s focus on enhancing public services and criticized the distraction caused by internal political strife.

Chancellor Rachel Reeves dismissed Nigel Farage’s claim of a potential Labour defection to Reform, advising caution when considering his statements. Reeves suggested that Farage’s assertions should be taken with skepticism, emphasizing the need for caution when interpreting his remarks.
