In a few days, I will present my second Budget as the Chancellor. My focus will be on supporting working families by addressing NHS waiting lists, reducing national debt, and lowering the cost of living. These priorities align with the country’s needs and my goals as Chancellor.
The commitment to reduce NHS waiting lists stems from the pledge to uplift the NHS, reverse years of austerity, and ensure timely access to essential healthcare services for patients. Addressing national debt is crucial to redirecting funds towards key sectors like education, healthcare, law enforcement, and communities, rather than debt interest payments.
Lowering the cost of living is paramount as it continues to burden households across the nation. Elevated prices disproportionately affect ordinary families, highlighting a need for economic adjustments that benefit working individuals. The upcoming Budget will include measures to alleviate this financial strain, building on previous initiatives implemented by the Labour government.
Initiatives such as freezing prescription charges, railway fare freezes, introducing school breakfast clubs, and combating ticket scalping have already eased financial pressures on households. The Budget will further extend support to address everyday expenses, ensuring a more sustainable economic environment.
The stability achieved in the economy enables these cost-saving measures, emphasizing prudent spending practices to avoid past errors. Efforts to eliminate wasteful spending and fraud aim to direct funds where they are most needed, whether in asylum support, eliminating police and crime commissioners, or preventing welfare fraud.
This Budget is designed to benefit families directly, fostering a fairer, more resilient, and secure Britain. The ongoing focus on improving economic stability and prudent financial management underpins the government’s commitment to enhancing the well-being of its citizens.
