The President of the United States may soon confront massive protests, potentially the largest in the nation’s history, as enraged Americans prepare to march in No Kings demonstrations.
Organizers are pushing back against what they perceive as authoritarianism under President Donald Trump, scheduling a significant protest against his administration amid mounting discontent both in the US and globally over ICE raids and shootings in Minneapolis. A third wave of “No Kings” protests is set for this spring, with organizers cautioning that these could be the most extensive demonstrations the US has witnessed.
Past rallies have drawn millions of participants, and organizers anticipate even greater turnout on March 28 following Trump’s immigration crackdown in Minneapolis.
Ezra Levin, co-executive director of the non-profit Indivisible, projected that the upcoming protest could be the largest in American history, with an estimated turnout of up to nine million individuals.
The “No Kings” protests, coordinated by various groups nationwide, have become a focal point for dissent against Trump’s efforts to consolidate power.
Levin highlighted that these protests are, to a large extent, a response to perceived attacks on democracy and communities by the current regime, coupled with a growing belief that there is no external savior.
Trump has criticized the demonstrations by sharing a peculiar AI video depicting him as a king pouring brown sludge on protesters from an aircraft. He has also rebuffed the protests, stating, “I’m not a king.”
The latest series of nationwide protests follows the deaths of Renee Good, a mother of three, and ICU nurse Alex Pretti at the hands of ICE agents. The Trump administration’s response to these killings has incited outrage across the country, with attempts to downplay the role of federal agents in the tragic incidents.
Additionally, officials close to Trump have demonized the deceased American citizens, with Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kirsti Noem labeling Good and Pretti as “domestic terrorists.” Levin noted that the planned protest has been redirected in light of these tragic public events.
The organizers aim to express solidarity with Minnesota and immigrant communities nationwide while denouncing the “secret police force” that they allege is responsible for killing Americans and violating their constitutional rights.
