Travel disruptions occurred in a UK city when a BMW vehicle got stuck on tram tracks, halting the Metrolink service. The incident, near Manchester city center, led to a suspension of trams between Piccadilly and Ashton-under-Lyne. The car, apparently abandoned by individuals who mistakenly drove onto the tracks, caused significant delays.
Affected commuters were permitted to utilize tram tickets on designated Bee Network buses while normal services were disrupted. An eyewitness, Ancoats and Beswick councillor Alan Good, observed the BMW driving onto the tracks and becoming immobile due to the terrain. Workers were seen attempting to resolve the situation, with the car eventually being removed later in the day.
Although tram services on the Ashton line have resumed, Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) cautioned of ongoing delays due to the earlier incident. Passengers were advised to expect severe disruptions, with alternative bus services available for travel. Other Metrolink routes continued operations as usual during the disruption.
