An investigation into the death of a woman who was discovered hanged shortly after she and her spouse posted hot-tub photos to mark their anniversary has unveiled tragic new revelations about the incident.
Abigail Garside, a 30-year-old champion equestrian, was found deceased by a passerby in Harrogate, North Yorkshire, during her wedding anniversary weekend on August 18 last year. Just hours prior, she had been celebrating with her husband, Samuel Garside, sharing joyful moments together on August 17.
Despite the couple’s social media posts portraying a happy celebration, the inquest revealed that Mrs. Garside had abruptly left their shared hotel room after an argument, leading to her disappearance overnight.
According to statements at the Northallerton Coroner’s Court, Mrs. Garside left the hotel room they were sharing at Rudding Park resort after a disagreement, despite their initial social media posts indicating a pleasant celebration. The couple had indulged in champagne, cocaine, and a night of drinking and bar-hopping in town before the altercation at Mojo’s bar.
Following a series of events, including Mrs. Garside leaving the hotel without her phone, her husband, Mr. Garside, discovered her absence and unsuccessfully attempted to locate her. Eventually, a member of the public found her lifeless.
Mr. Garside informed authorities that he had searched for his wife after realizing she had left her phone behind. Upon encountering police near the hotel, he learned of her tragic demise. The couple had plans to relocate to Australia before the unforeseen incident, leaving family members shocked.
The coroner, Sarah Middleton, concluded the inquest with a narrative verdict emphasizing the influence of alcohol and drugs on Mrs. Garside’s behavior, stating that her actions were uncharacteristic and that she had much to live for had she not been under the influence.
