A celebrated jockey narrowly escaped a fatal incident when her pelvis was severely injured as the horse she was riding toppled over her. Sonja Logan faced a harrowing episode in 2023, encountering a group of assailants attempting to steal her vehicle. During the ordeal, she was struck in the face with a rock after a brick was hurled through her car window.

Suffering a broken nose, cut lip, and shattered front teeth just three weeks before her wedding, Logan described the excruciating pain she endured when a half-ton racehorse trapped her underneath as the most intense sensation she had ever experienced.

While riding Jumping Power Two, a six-year-old gelding trained by her husband Tommy, Logan recounted the moment the horse was startled by something, causing it to rear up and fall on top of her, crushing her pelvis. Subsequently, she was transported to Darwin Royal Hospital with a pelvic brace before being flown to Adelaide Royal Hospital for specialized treatment since there was no pelvic surgeon available in Darwin.

Following a surgery where two screws and a plate with multiple screws were inserted to mend her crushed hip, Logan expressed gratitude for narrowly escaping a potentially fatal outcome, given the severity of her injuries. Now recovering at home with the aid of a walking frame, she anticipates a healing period of six to eight months before considering a return to riding, her ultimate goal.

Despite enduring the traumatic carjacking incident, Logan, a rider with 547 victories under her belt, made a remarkable comeback in horse racing, clinching the Alice Springs premiership and earning the top rider title in Northern Territories. However, she struggled privately with depression and alcohol abuse before finding solace in competitive bodybuilding, which helped her overcome mental challenges and anxiety post-injury.

Reflecting on her resilience, Logan acknowledged the unwavering support from her husband and her support network during her recovery journey. She emphasized the contrasting emotions between her recent accident and the past assault, noting the innocence of the horse in the incident and the invaluable assistance she received from her loved ones throughout the ordeal.
