Frankie Dettori concluded his illustrious career on a high note in Brazil, triumphing in the initial stage of the nation’s Triple Crown. Initially planning to retire at Ascot’s Champions Day in October 2023, the renowned jockey had a change of heart and extended his career in the United States.

At 55 years old, Dettori recently announced that his racing days would culminate at the Breeders’ Cup at Del Mar, following a brief farewell tour in South America that concluded at the Gavea racecourse in Rio de Janeiro last Sunday. During this final stretch, he clinched victory on Speak Alpha and then on Bet You Can in the Brazilian 2,000 Guineas, also known as the Grande Premio Estado do Rio De Janeiro.

The occasion also allowed him to showcase his iconic flying dismount celebration, a signature move he is known for. Reflecting on his last win, Dettori expressed his surprise and gratitude, stating, “I never expected to win a Group 1 on my last day. It’s been brilliant.”

Looking back on his career, he shared his appreciation for the journey, saying, “I’ve had a beautiful career, and I’m blessed to walk away unscathed. While my days as a jockey have ended, I remain committed to the racing world.” Dettori has embraced a new role as a global ambassador for Amo Racing, led by Kia Joorabchian, where he marked his final British Group 1 victory aboard King Of Steel in the Champion Stakes.

In a heartfelt message to his fans on social media, Dettori expressed his deep connection to the sport, acknowledging the impact it has had on his life over the past four decades. He thanked his family for their unwavering support, as well as the trainers, owners, stable personnel, and fellow jockeys who shared in his remarkable journey.

Concluding with gratitude towards his loyal fans, Dettori acknowledged their unwavering support, emphasizing the role they played in his success. He closed with a touching sentiment, “Thank you for allowing a young boy to live his dream.”
