Melania Trump has made a rare political statement in response to the recent ICE shootings and turmoil in the United States. During an interview with Fox & Friends on Tuesday, she expressed her opposition to violence and urged peaceful protests. Melania Trump also mentioned that Donald Trump had a productive discussion with Minnesota Governor Tim Walz and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, both Democrats, on Monday.

The First Lady emphasized the importance of collaboration to maintain peace and prevent further unrest in the aftermath of a tragic incident where Alex Pretti, a 37-year-old intensive care nurse, was fatally shot by ICE agents in Minneapolis. Video footage shows the agents disarming Pretti before he was shot multiple times and died at the scene. This incident occurred shortly after another individual, Renee Good, was also killed by an ICE agent in the same city.

The shootings, captured on camera, have sparked outrage across the country, prompting calls for the removal of ICE from Minneapolis. Thousands have taken to the streets in protest, leading Governor Tim Walz to deploy the US National Guard to ensure public safety.

Despite growing criticism, the Trump administration has firmly supported the actions of the ICE agents involved in the shootings. Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem labeled Pretti as a “domestic terrorist” in a press conference. Family members of Alex Jeffrey Pretti described him as a compassionate nurse who was troubled by Trump’s immigration policies.

In response to the escalating situation, President Trump announced the replacement of Border Patrol Commander Gregory Bovino with Tom Homan as the head of the ICE operation in Minneapolis. This decision was viewed as a critique of Secretary Noem’s management. Trump stated that Homan, known for being tough but fair, would report directly to him.

Despite these changes, reports indicate that immigration raids are ongoing in Minneapolis. Pressure continues to mount on the Trump administration from both Democrats and prominent Republicans, urging for a thorough investigation into the fatal shootings. Chris Madel, a defense attorney and Republican candidate for governor, withdrew from the race, denouncing ICE’s operations in Minnesota as a “disaster.”
