On what should have been a joyous Christmas for Za’Zell Preston, the young mother was tragically caught in a nightmare of abuse that culminated in her untimely death. Despite the festive decorations and wrapped gifts in her Anaheim, California apartment, Za’Zell was enduring a tumultuous and violent relationship with her husband, William Wallace, for over three years. Despite previous instances of abuse, including a jail sentence for Wallace, Za’Zell took him back when he promised to change upon his release in the summer of 2011.

As Christmas Day dawned, a horrific tragedy unfolded. Wallace called emergency services reporting Za’Zell needed medical attention. Paramedics found her lifeless on the sofa, surrounded by a scene of destruction – bloodstains, broken furniture, and a shattered glass table. Despite efforts to save her, Za’Zell was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Details emerged of the violent events leading to Za’Zell’s death, revealing a history of threats and abuse from Wallace. The night before Christmas, a heated argument escalated into a brutal physical assault, resulting in Za’Zell’s fatal injuries. Instead of seeking help, Wallace callously staged a disturbing scene for their children, falsely claiming Za’Zell had ruined Christmas while she lay dead.

Years later, Wallace faced trial and was convicted of second-degree murder. Za’Zell’s family and loved ones expressed their anguish and loss, condemning Wallace’s actions. The judge sentenced him to 15 years to life, acknowledging the devastation he wrought on Za’Zell’s family and the irreversible impact on her children’s lives.
