Broadband has become a crucial aspect of daily life, supporting various activities such as streaming entertainment, remote work, home security through internet-connected devices, and managing smart home gadgets like lighting and heating.
The demand for fast and reliable internet has surged as households increasingly integrate internet-connected devices and consume more online content. However, not all internet service providers (ISPs) deliver the same level of performance.
According to SpeedGo, a new broadband speed-testing service, Virgin Media leads the UK in average download speeds, offering an impressive 256.5Mbps. This speed allows users to download a full HD movie in just over two minutes, which is more than three times faster than the national average.
Following Virgin Media, Vodafone ranks second with average download speeds of 175Mbps, trailed by BT (EE). TalkTalk sits at the bottom of the list with an average speed of nearly 95Mbps.
The ranking of average download speeds among major UK ISPs is as follows:

2. Vodafone – 175.1Mbps
3. BT (EE) – 122.5Mbps

SpeedGo affirmed these results, stating, “Virgin Media provided the fastest broadband internet in the United Kingdom in 2025, with an average download speed of 256.5Mbps. Vodafone achieved the highest average upload speed at 83.6Mbps.”
