A large crowd gathered at a vigil to honor Alex Jeffrey Pretti, an American citizen and ICU nurse who was fatally shot by ICE agents. The 37-year-old had a valid license for the firearm he was carrying when the incident occurred. Although Homeland Security claimed Pretti was armed and resisted disarmament, specific details surrounding the shooting remain unclear.

Approximately 4,000 people, including an anonymous local, attended the vigil at Whittier Park in Minneapolis to pay their respects to Alex. Despite the peaceful atmosphere, there was a sense of caution with a nearby Aldi store boarding up windows and attendees wearing ski goggles for protection. The event, held in -7°F weather, featured chanting, speeches, and the distribution of hand warmers and hot cocoa.

Pretti, born in Illinois, had no criminal record and was described as a compassionate individual by his colleagues and family. Outrage over his death has sparked community unrest, with residents expressing anger and fear over the actions of federal agents. Calls for accountability and justice have intensified, with demands to halt such enforcement operations in Minnesota.

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz has engaged with the White House following the tragic shooting and urged President Donald Trump to remove what he referred to as “violent, untrained officers” from the state. This incident comes shortly after the death of Renee Nicole Good, another victim of an ICE agent’s shooting in Minneapolis, leading to widespread protests.

As the situation escalates, the community remains steadfast in their resistance and determination for change. Governor Walz’s plea for intervention and the ongoing public outcry highlight the urgent need for addressing the use of force by federal agents in Minnesota.
