Residents in certain areas across the country are still facing slow internet speeds, with Heol-Y-Fedw in Cymmer, Port Talbot, topping the list with speeds as low as 0.81 Mbps. This speed is inadequate for streaming services like Netflix or Disney+ and would take over 15 hours to download a movie. Comparatively, it is 1,494 times slower than the fastest street in the UK, where the same movie could be downloaded in just 40 seconds.
Other locations with poor broadband speeds include Turnberry Crescent in Aberdeen, Wesley Street in Maesteg, and Occupation Lane in Lincoln.
Despite the slow speeds, residents on these streets can improve their broadband access by switching providers or upgrading to full fiber from copper cables. Broadband Genie revealed that all ten slowest streets have access to Fibre to the Cabinet broadband (FTTC), with some even having access to Ultrafast broadband and full fiber options.
To enhance broadband speeds, Broadband Genie’s Alex Tofts recommends the following tips:
1. Test your broadband speed to identify any issues.
2. Optimize router placement within your home for better coverage.
3. Switch to the 5 GHz frequency on your Wi-Fi device for faster speeds.
4. Ensure router security by monitoring connected devices and removing unrecognized ones.
5. Keep your router software up to date for optimal performance.
On the other hand, some streets with the best broadband speeds include Inglewood Avenue in Derby (1.210Gbps), Moatview Park in Belfast (1.146Gbps), and Reynolds Avenue in Romford (1.014Gbps).
