A court trial has revealed that a teenage girl was pushed out of a fourth-floor window by her boyfriend, described as ‘abusive’. The incident took place at Merton House in Solihull, Birmingham, where Jordan Herring allegedly attempted to kill his girlfriend. The jury was shown disturbing CCTV footage from the flat block, capturing the girl’s fall of over 37 feet in November 2022. Emergency services were only contacted more than an hour after the tragic event.

The 22-year-old defendant, Jordan Herring, from Solihull, is currently on trial at Birmingham Crown Court, where he pleads not guilty to the charge of attempted murder. Prosecutors detailed the abusive relationship between Herring and the 18-year-old victim, citing instances of confinement, phone monitoring, and physical assaults. The court heard that Herring had violently beaten the girl in the days leading up to the incident, resulting in severe injuries including black eyes and throat bruises.

According to the prosecutor, Jamie Scott, the girl’s family raised concerns about her well-being, leading Herring to take her to his mother’s flat at Merton House under the cover of darkness. The prosecution alleged that Herring premeditated the act of throwing her out of the window, as evidenced by his actions in the spare room, where he prepared the window for the fatal push. The CCTV footage showed the girl falling to the ground late at night on November 12, sustaining serious injuries but surviving the fall.

Scott stated that Herring threatened to kill the girl before pushing her out of the window, showing a callous disregard for her life. After the fall, instead of seeking immediate medical help, Herring and his mother attempted to conceal the girl’s injuries and delayed contacting emergency services. The teenager was eventually airlifted to the hospital with critical injuries, requiring extensive medical intervention for collapsed lungs, a ruptured spleen, liver laceration, and multiple fractures.

When authorities arrived at the scene, Herring was uncooperative and tried to shift blame by claiming the girl had jumped voluntarily during an argument about infidelity. The jury was informed that Herring had a history of coercive and controlling behavior towards the victim following a previous trial.
