A mother has criticized the police after her 13-year-old son was knocked off his e-bike by officers in an unmarked police car. Junior Moran was struck while returning from MMA training on January 13. Surveillance footage captured the incident on Hilton Lane in Little Hulton, Salford.

The video shows Junior being knocked off his e-bike by a police officer who then approaches him before he attempts to ride away. Subsequently, an unmarked Greater Manchester Police (GMP) vehicle drives towards him, causing him to fall onto the pavement.

Although initially detained, Junior pleaded with the officers, insisting he had done nothing wrong. He was released shortly after. His mother, Jayne, expressed concern that the incident left her son disoriented and traumatized, prompting her to file a formal complaint with the police.

According to Jayne, Junior was unaware that the individuals were police officers; otherwise, he would have cooperated with them. GMP mentioned that Junior’s e-bike was unauthorized, leading to one officer making contact while another detained the teenager.

The police’s Professional Standards Directorate is investigating the matter. Jayne described spending hours at the hospital with her son, who suffered severe concussion. The family received an apology from a superintendent following the incident.

GMP stated that while Junior was not arrested, the e-bike was seized under the Road Traffic Act due to its illegal status. The police are reviewing the use of tactical contact in this case and have withdrawn the driving officer’s authority pending further inquiry.
